What a year 2018 has been! ArtsMattapan’s #CulturePops series really took on a life of its own. From the “Eritaj” art exhibit in the 4th floor gallery at the State House, to a panel discussion celebrating the life of Jacques Dessaline, ArtsMattapan continues to present works that are culturally siginificant–the aim of #CulturePops.
The Mattapan Arts Council held quarterly meetings to advocate for access to space(s) in Mattapan for artistic expression and play, to support local artists through network-driven initiatives, and serve as an interlocutor between our neighborhood and others, the City of Boston, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Even as MCAD (“the mothership”) continued to quietly push its strategic planning process throughout the year, it launched yet another programmatic initiative aimed at “making art happen in Mattapan,” while providing opportunities for local artists to draw inspiration from engaging with socially-conscious activists and organizers.
Our OutPost #NaponsettNibi was designated by the United States Department of Arts & Culture (USDAC) to function as one of its Outposts—a national action-oriented network of local groups of artists, organizers, and allies applying creative skills to promote and prompt civic engagement.
We’ll have much more to say about what OutPost Naponett Nibi holds in store for 2019. Here and now, as we wind up to celebrate New Year’s Eve, drop your email address in our mailing list @ the OutPost Naponsett Nibi webpage. In the meantime, here’s wishing you and yours a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!
